our approach

OUR ROLE IN ENGAGING IN CONFLICT IS AS A THIRD-PARTY NEUTRAL.

In this role, our focus is creating a process that reconciles relationships and creates the space and opportunity for people to come together, to constructively engage in shared problem solving.

We use a relationship centered approach called Conservation Conflict Transformation (CCT) to engage dialogue and decision-making processes.

CCT differs from other conflict approaches in that it is designed to:

  • GO DEEP: Reconciling the identity conflict that prevents trust, shared understanding and progress.

  • GO WIDE: Engaging society more broadly because conflicts over wildlife and other natural resources are both symbolic of and a microcosm of the larger societal conflicts

  • GO LONG: Ensuring that both people – their communities and cultures - and wildlife have the security and stability to thrive over the long term.

We partner with the Center for Conservation Peacebuilding, an organisation that shares our vision to transform social conflict for the benefit of people and wildlife.

Our leadership

francine madden, principal

For nearly 30 years, Francine Madden has a proven track record of effectively, impartially and devotedly intervening in complex, controversial fish, wildlife and other natural resource conflicts. Francine uses these lightning rod issues as entry points to reconcile the deep-rooted, systemic conflicts that impede stability and progress for communities and conservation, citizens and governments. By engaging as a third party neutral and transforming the relationships and dialogue processes, Francine provides critical, comprehensive and unique support toward lasting shared wins for people, their way of life and conservation. Francine’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek and Wall Street Journal.
